Piloting An Oversize Load Oilfield Truck

Yesterday Fred had to go up into the mountains to meet an oilfield truck that was coming back down into town with an oversize load and he stopped by our place to see if I wanted to go along with him.  Of course, I said "Yes!".  It was my first time going on a run with him and I enjoyed every moment of it. Not only was the drive absolutely beautiful, but it was really neat to learn more about everything that Fred and all of the other drivers have to know and have to do while piloting an oversize load.

This is one of the oversize load oilfield truck that Fred piloted from the oilfield road back to the mean yard where he works at Mustang Rental Ltd. here in Fort Saint John.

This white truck is just like the one that Fred has... and just encase you're unsure about what piloting is, this picture is a perfect example.  The lead truck leads the oversize load truck down the mountain roads and back into town.  They let the oncoming traffic know that a big truck is coming (which could be an size) close behind them.  Sometimes the oversize load truck is really big and takes up both lanes....  if this is the case then the pilot truck will block oncoming traffic by driving down the middle of the road.  He will also do this if the truck behind him is passing a slower oilfield truck on the road.

  1. Driving an oversize loads is not easy because it can cause a traffic. That picture that was illustrated was guiding the white truck. They let the oncoming traffic to know that a big truck is coming.
